Your Shopify footer is where serious shoppers go to make a decision. Here is what to include, how to structure it, and which elements build trust at the bottom of the page.

Most Shopify merchants treat the footer as an afterthought — a place to dump legal links and be done with it. But the footer is where considered shoppers go when they want to verify your legitimacy before committing to a purchase. Getting it right matters more than most people realise.

The Core Footer Elements

  • Navigation links: About, Contact, FAQ, Returns Policy, Delivery Information
  • Payment method icons — visible reassurance that their preferred method is accepted
  • SSL and security badges to reinforce checkout safety
  • Social media links — shows the brand is active and has a community
  • Newsletter signup — the footer is a low-pressure environment for this
  • Company registration number and registered address for UK stores

Trust Signals Belong in the Footer

Payment logos, review platform badges (Trustpilot, Google Reviews), and accreditation logos all belong in the footer. Customers who scroll to the bottom are actively evaluating whether to trust you. This is your last opportunity to answer that question before they leave.

Footer Navigation Structure

Group your footer links into logical columns: Shop (product categories), Help (FAQ, contact, returns), Company (about, blog, press), and Legal (privacy policy, terms, cookie policy). This structure is instantly familiar to customers and makes it easy to find what they are looking for without reading every link.

Key insightFor UK stores, displaying your company registration number, VAT number (if applicable), and registered address in the footer is a legal requirement for limited companies.

Newsletter Signup Placement

A footer email signup performs better than a mid-page popup for customers who have already engaged with your content. Keep the value proposition clear — 'Join 12,000 subscribers for weekly style tips and exclusive offers' converts far better than 'Sign up for our newsletter'. Use Shopify's native email marketing integration or your ESP's form embed.

Mobile Footer Considerations

On mobile, accordion-style footer navigation conserves space without hiding important links. Ensure tap targets are at least 44px tall, and consider pinning a sticky contact button for customers who want help quickly. The footer is one of the few sections where desktop and mobile layouts can diverge significantly — design both intentionally.
